Day 69 - Santiago de Chile
Our flight got put forward by an hour, so after much prep to arrive 2 hours early for our flight, we were pleased to be told we almost too late and had to run to departures. That said, we paid our 30 dollars to leave the country (sweet) and headed on a quick flight to Santiago de Chile, via Iquique in the north of Chile. For the first time ever, I was sat next to an exit, so had to be prepped to open it in the event of a disaster. Scary.
We landed in Iquique, which is a huge airport in the middle of the desert. The place was hot and dry, but we jumped straight back on the plane and arrived in Santiago an hour later. Santiago is NICE. and well expensive. The place is so completely european. The streets, the billboards, the buildings. The place is exquisite, but NOT south-american compared to what we have been used to.
Since we only had one night here (we have a connecting flight to Rio tomorrow morning) we bombed through the city to our hostel, got comfortable, went for a meat dinner (the local delicacy is a parillada, or a HUGE rack of different meats, but sam and I were too scared to try it), and watched a movie before bed. Brasil was called me...
